Thanks to a Fellow Etsian

Hope everyone is having a great weekend...

Thanks to Monkee Baby Creations for featuring my Three Circles Necklace on her blog. Here's a photo of the necklace:

Here's a link to her blog: http://luvmymonkeys.blogspot.com/2009/01/brown-stands-for-part-2.html?showComment=1231116480000#c4896821747925702109

Monkee supports her fellow Etsians by featuring our items everyday (or every other day) on her blog. She selects a color/theme and then posts what she's looking for on the Etsy Forums under the Promotions section. I encourage all of you to check out her blog and post some of your items depending on what the theme is for the day. I think tomorrow's theme is polka dots. This is a really nice thing you are doing, Monkee, and thank you again!

I posted a few new coiled wire items in my Etsy Shop so check them out if you get the chance: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6456034&section_id=5837197. The photos really don't do these pieces justice. I continue to work on my photography skills!

Well, that's all I have for this beautiful Sunday evening. Hope everyone has a great week!

Until later...

New Years Resolution: Learn New Jewelry Design Techniques

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! I generally don't make New Year's resolutions but this year I felt the need to especially when it comes to learning new techniques in jewelry design. New to me that is. I was in my local bead shop the other day and saw one of those coiling gizmos. It was on sale so I figured why not buy it and see if it actually works. While I was there, I also bought some metal beads and findings. I love metal and look forward to the day I start learning how to make my own metal pieces. Anyway, I went home and tried the coiling gizmo and was pretty happy with what I made. I combined one of the coiled pieces with one of the metal pieces I bought at the bead shop and added some wire and came up with a new necklace design for my Etsy shop. I haven't uploaded it to my shop yet because I need to take a better photo. However, I think it's good enough to show you here. The photo is a bit blurry but you should still get an idea of what my new design looks like.

I love it so much that I decided to add a new collection to my shop that will feature items made with coiled wire and metal beads and pieces. I'm so excited. It's fun to learn new things! Feel free to let me know what you think.

Showcase Results

Well, here I am back at work after being out for five days. Surprisingly, it's not that bad although there are a lot more people here than I thought there would be. Perhaps it's the current state of our economy that have people fearing for their jobs so instead of taking vacations this holiday season, people opted to come to work. Who knows. Anyway, on to the next topic...

After having my items on Etsy's show case for 24 hours, I got about 80 or so hits to my page. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad but it's certainly better than nothing. I made sure to feature the item that has received the most hits. Here's a photo of the earrings that I featured:

I'm proud of these earrings. I really like them, they're cheerful. I wonder why no one bought them? They are only $13. I already know the answer to this question. There are too many sellers on Etsy and I need to stand out. Perhaps take better photographs. I also need to find other outlets to market my jewelry in addition to Etsy.

I'll leave you with a very helpful post I found on Etsy's Forums. The post is written by Timothy Adams who has been very successful with selling handcrafted metal jewelry on Etsy and in other outlets as well. I'm definitely taking a lot of his advice and you might want to as well.

The Etsy Showcase - is it worth it?

I didn't mention this in yesterday's post but I purchased a showcase spot on Etsy where I featured all of my top selling items. In my case, I featured items that I thought could be top selling if I were to actually sell anything. :) Anyway, it only set me back $7 so I figured it was worth a try. So far, no sales but I'm getting hits. I'm fine with that for now. The more exposure I get, the more likely I am to get sales....eventually. While lurking on the Etsy Forums, I read a post where a seller asked if anyone had any luck with the showcases. A majority of the responses were NO.

Any Etsy members out there? Have you ever purchased a showcase spot that resulted in sales in your shop? If so, what do you think contributed to your success?

Check out the new logo on my site - I made it myself: http://www.battina68.etsy.com/
Now I need to figure out how to get rid of that black line that runs across the top!

I finally made it to the 21st Century!

Greetings everyone and welcome to my very first blog! I am so proud that I finally got up the nerve to start one of these. I recently started a jewelry business called Dazzling Dangles and my items are posted on etsy.com. Here is the url to my shop if you care to look and comment on the items in my shop as well as my profile: http://www.battina68.etsy.com/. I also started my own website which is a work in progress so you may be hearing some rants about that.

You'll see that I have a little of everything in my shop. I haven't quite come up with a niche yet. I really love making wire jewelry so maybe I'll go more in that direction. I've also learned how to fuse fine silver so that'll be coming soon to my shop. If any jewelry designer happen to run into my blog and have time to comment on any of my designs, I would love to hear it, good or bad! I have tough skin so I can take the criticism. :)

Well, I'm off to the grocery store so I'll have to end it here. I've become addicted to making jewelry and as a result, my fridge and cabinets are bare. :/ I will leave you with a few photos of some of my favorite pieces that I designed. I will probably continue to post photos so stay tuned.

You know, blogging is actually kind of fun. I think I'll come back!
